Lost in thought as you walk home, you reflect about the day you’ve had. It’s not been a good day so your thoughts lead you to think about all the other problems in your life, all the past and current dilemmas, all the current hardships you are facing and the old wounds that are yet to heal. The same thoughts go round and round in your mind and you start to feel a little sad. From sadness to anguish to wallowing in misery, you can feel yourself about to be engulfed, completely consumed and being pulled towards this pit hole of pain, agony and depression. And then you look up. And you see a man smiling into his phone as he walks. A phone he holds with the stubs of his arms because this man has no hands.
Perspective! What a beautiful thing to own. How lost are we when we lose it? How hard do we try to obtain it? By unnecessarily focusing too much or too long on things, how much time do we waste without it? By being self-obsessed, we inevitably lose the ability to see things in perspective. The right perspective is very important. It can shape your moods, change your behaviour and help you lead a more productive and happier life. So let’s not lose our mind to our problems but keep our minds focused on the true perspective. Let us always make a conscious effort to think, observe and analyse from a correct point of view. Let us reach the stage where we are always grateful and thankful to Allah ESPECIALLY in those times when we are suffering hardships and finding life difficult. And let us get to a stage where we do not need prompts, visual or otherwise, to remind us to thank Allah for the blessings we’ve been bestowed with! Ya Allah, help us to view and keep all things in perspective whenever and whatever the situation, ameen.
