Khutba Feedback: 17.04.09I prayed Jummah at ELM and Shaykh Abdul Qayyum started by mentioning the new initiative that East London Mosque have taken. The new initiative will allow people who can’t hear to understand the Khutba because there will be people who do sign language at the front of each halls. It is very important that we strive to accommodate our brothers and sisters who have these difficulties. Abdullah Ibn Umar narrated a hadith about a man who asked Rasool SWAS about two things. One was “who are the most beloved people to Allah” and “what is the most beloved action to Allah”. Rasool SWAS said the most beloved people to Allah are those who help others and the most beloved actions are those who:1. Help to bring happiness to another Muslim 2. Remove difficulty for another Muslim3. Help to removed debt of another brother4. Help to remove hunger from a Muslim
The hadith mentioned a few more details about Rasool SWAS preferring to spend time with his companions and this was more rewarding then doing a month’s Itikafh in his mosque in Madina. So we can see how much emphasis has been given to helping others and making sure that other Muslims are not in difficulty and Rasool SWAS said that the one who walks with his brother until his job is done, then Allah SWT will make his feet firm in the hereafter. If we can do this we have a chance to attain something so special and so precious. We have the chance to attain the love from Allah SWT because in a hadith Rasool SWAS said that the one that Allah loves, Allah SWT tells Gabriel AS to love that individual, then Gabriel AS will go and tell the rest of the angels that Allah SWT loves so and so, so you love him to. What an amazing achievement we can gain if can attain the love of Allah SWT; we will have Allah SWT and the angels loving us! On the other hand if we continue to sin we will lose to the love from Allah SWT and this is a great tragedy. Rasool SWAS said that sin corrupts the person like the way vinegar corrupts honey. Shaykh Qayyum emphasised that there is no compromise with the fard prayers, but if we have an option to do nafl prayers on one hand and helping another brother on the other hand, helping that brother is a more rewarding action and we can achieve the love of Allah SWT. In a hadith Rasool SWAS said that the one who removes a difficulty for someone in this world, Allah SWT will remove difficulty for him in the hereafter. So by helping others we are actually helping ourselves in terms of our situation in the hereafter. Hasan Al Basri heard of one of his brothers was in difficulties; he gathered some people and sent for Thabit Al Banani. However Thabit said that he was in Itikafh and couldn’t come, so Hasan Al Basri said that helping a brother is far more important than Itikafh. Thabit heard this and came out straight away to help. Umar Ibn Khatab RA during his time as Caliph he would go to a person’s house during the night and Talha saw this and doubted Umar and wondered what Umar was getting up to. So he went to that house and found out that there was an old lady who had no one to look after her and Umar would go to her and do chores for her. Talha then felt bad that he doubted Umar and questioned his soul. This the leader of the Muslims and he goes to this lady to help, he realises that this is a more pleasing act in the sight of Allah then the nafl prayers at night. To conclude I want to quote some lyrics from a song by Ahmed Bhukatir which I feel is very true to what the Khutba was saying:“With feet to take me where I go, with eyes to see the sunset, with ears to hear what I hear...oh God forgive me when I whine...when I whine. I’ve been blessed indeed the world is mine”We should thank Allah SWT and do our utmost to help those who are less fortunate then us and East London Mosque has taken these steps and we should do more to include those who feel isolated from the community InshAllah. |
